János Bándi | Opera Singer

He graduated from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1981 as a student of Ferencné Révhegyi. As a student and a scholarship-holder of the Hungarian State Opera House, he already sang some minor roles in the Opera. His first great success was the role of Prince Ramiro in Rossini's Cinderella. In 1981 he joined the Opera House, where he worked until 1987. Since then he has been a freelance singer. At the beginning of his career he mainly sang lyrical tenor roles, but later he gradually became a heroic tenor. Major roles: Hermann (Tchaikovsky: The Queen of Spades), Bánk ban (Erkel), Canio (Leoncavallo: Pagliacci), Calaf (Puccini: Turandot), Manrico (Verdi: Il trovatore), Radames (Verdi: Aida), Otello (Verdi: Otello). János Bándi sang the role of Jaquino at the 1985 revival of Fidelio conducted by Antal Doráti.
