Matthias von Stegmann | Stage Director

He started his career dubbing films for children at the age of 10, and has been working as a dubbing director since he was 20. He has written the dialogues of and directed the German dubbing of a number of successful films and TV series (including The Simpsons). He is also an active actor, his latest role was that of Selim Pasha in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the New York Metropolitan. He was an assistant to the director and artistic assistant at the Bayreuth Festival from 1991 to 2006, and later worked as an assistant and co-director at the Royal Opera House, London and the Tokyo National Theatre. In Tokyo he staged Der fliegende Holländer in 2007 and Der Freischütz in 2008. In November 2007, his direction of Nibelugenring, an adaptation of Wagner's tetralogy for children and young audience, was performed with great success in the tent pitched on the upper terrace of the Vienna Staatsoper. He had staged the same production in Tokyo, and later in Zurich in 2008.
