Gábor Keveházi, Artistic Director of the Hungarian
National Ballet Company, will act as the main instructor
and director of the 2009 HNBC Summer Intensive program,
performance, audition and Artistic Director Seminar. His
long experience as an outstanding student, competitor,
dancer, choreographer and director has helped establish
the 125 year HNBC as one of the foremost Companies in
the world with one of the largest repertories. Under his
tutelage, the HNBC members have been encouraged to
express and enhance the art form and thrived as
internationally recognized choreographers. His list of
personal accomplishments is long but Keveházi students
have also benefited from this vast cache of dance
experience.
Student years include graduation from the Hungarian
State Dance Academy followed by his study at the
Vaganova Ballet School in St. Petersburg. Competition
successes include winning the gold and silver medal at
the Varna International Ballet competition as well as
being voted as the Best Male Dancer at the International
Ballet Competition of Tokyo, Japan.
The Keveházi years as a leading soloist of the Hungarian
State Opera House were considered as one of the most
brilliant of that institution between 1972 and 1992. His
vast list of National and International awards attests
to his wide range of faculty and talent: Liszt Award,
Outstanding Artist Award, Kossuth Prize, The Officers
Cross of the Hungarian Republic, Nijinsky Award, Master
Artist Award and an appointed as a part of an esteemed
member as an “Everlasting Member of the Opera House’ as
a significant kudos in recognition of citizenship
towards Hungarian arts.
Gábor Keveházi organized the Summer Opera and Ballet
Festival that is the highlight of the Budapest
performing art season (Budafest) and has choreographed
an extensive list of original works: Balinka, Mefisto,
Cristoforo, Zorba, Hymn to Man and most recently the
Hungarian State Opera House Festive Performance in the
HSOH. His expertise in arrangement and choreography has
produced countless prize winning works for the students
of the Hungarian Dance Academy as well as for the Ballet
Sophianae.

Ildikó Pongor is considered a classic ballet jewel in
the Hungarian crown. Her education began at the
Hungarian Dance Academy and concluded at the Vaganova
Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a member of the
Hungarian National Ballet Company since 1972, her highly
regarded career included almost every major role in the
HNBC repertoire as well as outstanding interpretations
in ballets by Béjart, Balanchine, Kylian, Van Manen,
Bourneville, MacMillan, Pártay, Fodor and Laszlo.
Very much in demand as a guest artist, Pongor was
invited twelve times to Japan and toured North America
four times. She has been a permanent guest artist of the
Staatsoper of Vienna, a leading soloist in Stockholm for
many years, and has danced in every major city of
Europe. Pongor’s talents have taken her to Mexico, South
Korea, Hong Kong, Canada, and Taiwan as well as across
the European continent--- to much public acclaim.
Considered as much a contributor as well as an
ambassador of Hungary, Ildikó Pongor has been the
recipient of the Ferenc Liszt Award and the Merited
Artists Award, Kossuth Award, Honored Artist’s Award,
Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Hungarian
Republic and is honored as “an Eternal Member of the
Opera House” in recognition of her exceptional
citizenship.
Currently active as a HNBC Ballet Master and a guest of
many international ballet galas in the USA, the Gala des
Etoiles (Canada) and the World Stars at the Hungarian
State Opera House which acts as a philanthropic
enterprise on behalf of the aid of disadvantaged
children in Hungary.
Her role as Ballet Master has recently included the
staging of Don Quixote and Swan Lake as well as the
ballet direction of Ivan Markós, The Beloved of the Sun
and La Bayadére—both of which were recently staged in
the Hungarian State Opera House. |

Eldar Aliev joined the Kirov Ballet in 1979, where he
was a Principal Dancer for 13 years. Aliev toured in
over 40 countries and performed in the most prominent
theatres worldwide. He toured not only with the Kirov
Ballet, but with the Stars of the Kirov & Bolshoi
Ballets and in the Galaxy of Russian Ballet Series.
Aliev quickly became a Kirov favourite and a
sought-after guest star. He has appeared with numerous
companies, including the Bolshoi Ballet and The
Australian Ballet. He has featured regularly in gala
events in Germany, Japan, Canada and the United States,
where he took up residence in 1992, becoming Artistic
Director of Ballet Internationale in 1994. At Ballet
Internationale, Aliev created a number of remarkable
productions, including Le Corsaire, A Thousand and One
Nights, The Nutcracker and The Firebird.
Aliev is a world-recognised adjudicator of international
ballet competitions. He served as a jurist for the
inaugural International Ballet Competition in Prague in
2002; was both jurist and member of the International
Regulations Committee for the 1st and 2nd Seoul
International Dance Competition and was a jurist for the
VIII Youth America Grand Prix International Competition.
In 2008 Aliev served as a Member of the International
Jury for the 23rd Varna International Ballet Competition,
the 5th Seoul International Dance Competition and the
2nd Beijing Invitational Ballet Competition for Dance
Schools.
Aliev continues his work touring the world creating new
choreography, staging classical repertoire and teaching
with distinguished companies such as the Boston Ballet,
the National Ballet of China, the National Ballet of
Canada, the Hungarian National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet,
the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Universal Ballet of Korea.

Dolores Castillo was accepted as a member of the
Hungarian National Ballet Company upon her graduation
from the Hungarian Dance Academy in 1985. She counts
Katalin Sebesteny as her Ballet Master from her years at
the Academy.
As a soloist, Ms. Castillo has danced most of the major
roles offered by the rich Hungarian National Ballet
Company’s extensive repertory.
A recepient of the Harangozo Gyula Award in 2003,
Castillo has represented Hungarian dance as a guest
artists in Canada, Mexico, Spain and Poland. Her further
professional work includes having acted as the
rehearsing ballet mistress for the Hungarian Ballet
Festival in 2006 and as the rehearsing ballet mistress
in 2008 of the piece by Antal Fodor „Woman Times Seven”
as well as the musical montage by Istvan Marta. In that
same year, Ms. Castillo rehearsed the HNBC as part of
her duties in La Bayadere. |

Mr.
Cousin garnered his BA in Dance History/Choreography
from Point Park University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
His MFA in New Media Art and Performance was a result of
his studies at Long Island University, New York. Additionally,
Mr. Cousin lists his experiences as a student of the
Alvin Ailey School of American Dance and the Martha
Graham School. Dance credits include: The Physical
Theater Project of which he was Co founder /Artistic
Director), Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertaz, Bill T.
Jones and Arnie Zane Co in collaboration with graffiti
artist Keith Haring, Ballett Bern (Switzerland) and The
American Dance Ensemble.
As a choreographer, Tome' Cousin received two
fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts
and the Vera and Howard Heinz Foundations as well as
three commissions from the Lambda Foundation. He is the
recipient of 4 Choreographic/Continuum grants and 3
Dance/Theater fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council
of the Arts. Mr. Cousin has created over 60 original
dance and theater works.
As an instructor, Mr. Cousin has taught many levels of
contemporary dance and theater. From 1982/1993 he served
as an Associate Professor at Point Park University. He
has been on the staff of the Ballet Tennessee, Steps in
NYC, Ballet Centrum (Germany), and served as a movement
consultant for the Kahurangi Dance Theater of New
Zealand as well as the prestigious Hungarian Dance
Academy in Budapest, Hungary. He is a graduate of the
teacher training program with the National Dance
Institute (NYC) under the direction of Jacques d'Amboise.
Theatre credits include national tours of A Chorus
Line", Bingo Long, Village Wooing, Sweet Charity, La
Cage Aux Folles among others.
In 2004, Mr. Cousin was appointed Directing Supervisor
by original director and choreographer Susan Stroman for
the Tony Award winning musical CONTACT. To date, Mr.
Cousin has directed four regional productions within the
parameters of Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York,
Massachusetts as well as locales in Hungary. In 2010,
among his other projects, Mr. Cousin will return to
Hungary the summer of 2010 to teach in the Summer
International hosted by the Hungarian National Ballet
Company under the direction of Artistic Director, Gabor
Keveházi. |
