Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg State
Ballet Theatre
Dear Friends,
The idea of this program seems outstandingly appealing to me.
The HNBC Summer International participants are provided with a
unique chance to step up to a higher level of art, to extend
their professional experience during a 3-week focused training
and at the same time are able to establish new contacts with
decision makers while demonstrating to these their artistic
skills.
Dance is a universal language for conveying emotions and
philosophical ideas, comprehensible to all individuals and void
of limitations of a cultural or national nature. It is my firm
conviction that ballet as an art form, if constricted by a
geographic barrier (or any particular school within ballet)
cannot develop successfully. Therefore, openness to the whole
world is one of the most relevant characteristics of a ballet
dancer.
In this respect the HNBCSI performance, audition and competition,
providing ballet leaders and decision makers with detailed
information on the potential of the participating dancers coming
from all over the world, is useful beyond words. I wish all
participants of this artistic project success and inspiration!
Sincerely,
Boris

Cooperation,
connections, contacts, good relationships, discussion, art… That
is the most important expression of a need to create a few
really serious works – in ballet as well. The event like the
European Ballet Forum in the Hungarian State Opera Budapest
offers too many discuss topics and new knowledge in ballet
movement in Europe, maybe in all over the world. I think it
gives to visitors every year new and new experiences and
information, how to do our job better. That is a new situation
for me as a artistic director of Kosice Ballet, but I know it is
going to enrich me in many ways. Technigue, emocions,
choreography, trends, cooperation in international sort, points
of view of lot of significant people – you could find a
renaissance and new wind to your art activity. Mainly if you can
use your professional outputs to create new projects with a
potential ballet ensembles up to a spectacular gala program or
longer cooperation on performances.
In this year we are going to make a gala called “Four Stars of
European Ballet”, where 4 ensembles from Czech Republic, Poland,
Hungary and our ensemble will present fragments from own
choreographies and common trained choreography in every
participating city. We are looking forward because we wish to
enrich in new relationships, new people and a good atmosphere.

This
is always very profitable for all of us, the people who are
immersed in the world of dance, to meet and discuss vital
issues. It is even more valuable that this is combined with the
audition for the new generation of dancers which can allow us to
recruit artists for our companies.

We
consider your initiative very interesting both for the contents
proposed and the global structure which suggests a wide and
stimulating approach.
We think that offering to the young dancers such an important
opportunity for auditions becomes a chance to increase the
quality of professional activity in the contemporary creative
work. We are sorry that we cannot share with you this event
personally; however Fondazione Nazionale della Danza –
Aterballetto will contribute to this round table with the
presence of our Promotion and Programming manager, Mrs. Amei
Teupel.
We strongly hope that the beginning of our contacts with your
Country will develop in an European and international net with
the aim of supporting the high potential of Dance in a common
background. We are convinced that dance is today one of the most
progressive forms of live performing although we are passing
through a critical phase which regards to Culture too. Our
challenge today, should be then to defend the good standards we
have reached until now as well as to connect about the big
changes under way.
Fondazione Nazionale della Danza, will concentrate all its
energy and experience on this.
We send you and to the participants our warmest regards and we
wish you a successful initiative.

It
is very important that the kinds of meetings such as the European
Ballet Forum are happening. It is providing a convenient
possibility for European ballet directors to meet in person and
discuss topics. We often forget that our colleagues can do
things better and more efficiently; It is great to exchange
some ideas about how to run the company or which kind of
problems we are experiencing, plus how problems are solved elsewhere.
This occasion has given us a chance to talk about
collaboration between ballet companies of our National Theaters, for instance, the project Giselle
that we are preparing for next season
with HNBC. It is great not only because both sides can save a
fare amount of money but it also provides us with a chance to
establish a more intense exchange between companies. This is great
for the dancers as well as it is a motor of inspirations between
two parties and brings a positive effect on work, working ethics
and many, many other things.
I am pleased that we are going to
have this important collaboration between the Ballet of Slovak
National Theater and Hungarian National Ballet. It is the second
project that we have done together after ballet GALA for dancers.
It
demonstrates the importance of culture in the new world and also that
culture puts nations and people together and shows that problems
between two nations are not as big as it seems sometimes.
