He won the singing competition of the Spoleto Theatre at the age of 23 in 1998, and then studied at the studio of La Scala Milan from 1999 to 2001. He was the first singer to win the “Renato Bruson” Award in 2002. He regularly appears at La Scala, where he debuted in the role of Marcello in La Bohème, and later sang the roles of Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Lescaut (Massenet: Manon), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) and Cavaliere di Belfiore (Verdi: Un giorno di regno). He has also sung in many opera houses in Italy, Europe and America: in L’elisir d’amore in Frankfurt, in Il viaggio a Reims in Genova, in La Bohème in Dresden, Madrid, the Verona Arena and Atlanta, and in Le nozze di Figaro (Count Almaviva), Falstaff (Ford) and Cinderella (Dandini) in Dresden. He has been a regular guest singer at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro since 2005. He is to debut at the New York Metropolitan (La Bohème), the Vienna Staatsoper (Falstaff) and in Munich (L’elisir d’amore) in the course of this season. He has sung on many recordings including Ciléa’s Gina (Uberto), Leoncavallo’s I Medici (Poliziano) and Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio (Slook).
