Bernstein100 – Gershwinnel

Is there anyone who does not know his name? Leonard
Bernstein was a multi-coloured wonder of the world,
who, in addition to his oeuvre as a pianist, conductor
and media artist, left behind a number of compositions
too. Compiling a selection of these on the centenary
of his birth is a pleasant and popular but, at the same
time, demanding and joyous obligation. Making the
most of the special atmosphere of summer nights, we
will now remember the Maestro with the orchestral
suite of West Side Story and two famous excerpts from
his Candide, alongside Gershwin’s music that he loved
so much and often conducted and played on the piano.
Bernstein visited Budapest too and gave a concert at the
Erkel Theatre.
