The season opener production of the Hungarian State Opera is a real treat. For the first time ever, Carl Orff’s masterpiece can be experienced in a way the composer always intended: a stage production. Commissioned by the Opera, this new production promises to enchant audiences with unique, magical images enhancing the well-known piece.
The Hungarian Sate Opera is to close its current season with the internationally popular piece by Sir Elton John and Lee Hall. Billy Elliot – The Musical is on stage of the Erkel Theatre from 19 June through 14 July, 2018.
The Hungarian State Opera would hereby like to reassure the audience that 29 performances of the production Billy Elliot - The Musical will take place whereas 15 of the 44 performances planned for June and July had to be cancelled following the press controversy of the past weeks.
The Hungarian State Opera’s 2017/18 season will get off to an unusual start, since the Opera House will not be opening its doors in September. The modernisation means that the season will start at the Erkel Theatre, and while there will be fewer programmes than usual, their diversity will match that of previous years. The Opera Visit and the Opera Shop at the Opera House are still open to the public.
