Eszter Csákányi


Actress

From 1971 to 1973, Eszter Csákányi studied at the studio of the National Theatre and then joined the ensemble of Kaposvár's Csiky Gergely Theatre, where she remained until 1992. Between 1992 and 2002 she was a a member of the Katona József Theatre, as she was of the Krétakör (Chalk Circle) Theatre from 2002 until 2008, but she has worked as a freelance actress since then. Since 2012 she has played the leading role in a number of productions by Béla Pintér and Company. In addition to her numerous highly acclaimed stage portrayals, she has also been a beloved fixture in film dramas (including Singing on the Treadmill, Lost Illusions and Swing) and television films (Liliomfi and Birds of God) and series (Therapy). She received the Mari Jászai Award in 1982 and was made an Artist of Merit in 1996, later winning the Kossuth Prize in 2006. Since 2008 she has been an eternal member of the Company of Immortals.
