Born in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, Mykhailo Malafii earned his master's degree from the city's National Music Academy and is currently taking part in Kaludi Kaludov's master class. He is also a soloist with the Lviv National Opera and Ballet Theatre. He has won numerous competitions, taking first prize at the Competizione dell’Opera Singing Competition in Minsk in 2015, the Jana, Edwarda and Józefiny Reszków Singing Competition in Częstochowa, Poland, in that same year, along with earlier victories at the 48th International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary in 2013, the „Musical Performance and Pedagogy” International Vocal Forum in Italy, the 21st Century Art International Competition in Kiev-Vorzel, the Mykola Lysenko centenary competition in Lviv, all in 2012, and the Oksana Petrusenko International Singing Competition in Kherson in 2009.
His roles of the recent past and near future include Rodolfo (La bohème) at Gdańsk's Opera Bałtyca, as well as four roles in Lviv and Minsk: Alfredo (La traviata), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Lensky (Eugene Onegin) and the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto). In addition, he is singing Alfredo in Sofia, Rodolfo in Varna and Gustavo (Riccardo) in Budapest.
