After earning his degree in law and history, Péter Novák worked as a chef, investigator and librettist. Alongside his career as a journalist, he has been directing documentary films for more than ten years. Crime and Impunity, the documentary film he and Fruzsina Skrabski made on former communist leader Béla Biszku, provoked a strong public reaction and became one of the most-watched Hungarian films at cinemas in 2010. Their investigative documentary film series Ring and Run was broadcast on the M1 television channel. Their most recent films (Cinema Inferno, Global Menu) have been screened at many festivals both in Hungary and abroad, winning numerous awards. His films and writings focus most of all on the confrontation between the past and the present. Kádár's Last Speech is his first production at the Hungarian State Opera.
