The band was formed in the autumn of 2005, originally for a film score. The leader Kornél Fekete-Kovács, principally known by his large orchestral works, Ferenc Liszt priced composer and trompetist. Beside the Modern Art Orchestra – the ensemble, directed by him – the FKQ was formed to realise his conceptions, which feeds upon the combo jazz playing. The repertoire of the band, is based on the bandleader‘s compositions, but other members‘ compositions are also heard in concerts. The openess of the members of the group to other musical streams, has made recognizable signs in the sound of the quintett. This is a little more crusty, dry European way of playing main stream jazz, which mostly contains the elements of contemporary classical music. By the composition and structure, the interaction, the spontaneous improvised way of playing – touching the boundaries of free jazz – is strongly present in their music. Members of the band: Kornél Fekete-Kovács – trumpet, flugelhorn, János Ávéd – saxophones, Gábor Cseke – piano, Balázs Horváth – bass, László Csízi – drums
