Born in Budapest, Béla Földi is the head of the Budapest Dance Theatre ensemble, and works as an artistic director, choreographer and teacher both in Hungary and abroad. His teachers included Endre Jeszenszky and Raza Hammadi. His international experience goes back to the second half of the 1980s, when he studied under Carlos Orta, Milton Myers and Bruce Taylor. He founded the Budapest Dance Theatre in 1991, and since 1992 has been teaching a fusion style combing elements of classical ballet, Raza Hammadi-type jazz and Limón technique. In 1999, the Budapest Dance Theatre won the prestigious EuroPAS Hungarian Dance Award, and in 2014 won the audience prize at the National Dance Theatre's Dance Festival. In 2001, Béla Földi received the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, and was decorated with the Gyula Harangozó Award in 2002. In 2011, he received the Hungarian Dance Association's award for “Dance Education and Dance Studies”. Over the course of his career, he has worked together with such choreographers as Pál Frenák, Tamás Juronics, Iván Markó, Raza Hammadi, Joseph Tmim and Krisztina de Châtel. His company performs mainly at the National Dance Theatre and at Müpa Budapest, although since 2011 the company has also had its own performance space. Alongside his choreographic work (between 1991 and 2015, he staged more than two dozen of his own dance pieces), he places great emphasis on dance training, which he has taught in his own school system since 2010. In 2022 he earned the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary
