Alinka Kozári pursued her studies at Budapest’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music under Magda Nádor, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and at the National Opera Studio in London, while also taking part in master classes with Sir Thomas Allen, Malcolm Martineau, Leo Nucci, José Cura and Thomas Quasthoff. She is currently based in London, where she has taught since 2003 alongside her work on the stage. Since moving to the British capital, she has worked regularly with Lillian Watson and made appearances in conjunction with many of the city’s venues and companies, including the English National Opera, the British Youth Opera, Diva Opera, the English Touring Opera and Opera Holland Park. She has also been featured at festivals like Garsington Opera, the Iford Arts Festival and the Anghiari Festival. In Hungary, she has sung in Miskolc and Budapest, and she also has foreign engagements in Ireland and the Czech city of Pilsen to her name.
Her roles include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Fiorella (l turco in Italia), Walter (La Wally), Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Grófné (Le nozze di Figaro), Gilda (Rigoletto), Phébé (Castor et Pollux), Violetta (La traviata), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) and the title role of Agrippina.
She also takes part in contemporary works, having sung the roles of Princess Caraboo in Malcolm Williamson’s opera English Eccentrics and Sally Bones in Julian Philips’s Varjak Paw, the solo soprano part in George Benjamin’s Into the Little Hill, the role of Babette in Šimon Voseček’s Biedermann and the Arsonists. Her concert repertoire includes the soprano parts of John Rutter’s Magnificat, Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, Mozart’s Exultate, jubilate, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Elias and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, which she has sung in Italy, France, Spain, Hungary and the United Kingdom. In the near future, she will be performing the role of Oscar in Un ballo in maschera in Budapest and appearing in Opera North’s new production of Bohuslav Martinů’s The Greek Passion. She will return to Budapest in the 2019/20 season to sing Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
