József Antall25+ Memorial Concert

It was on this day in December 1993 when the body
of the first freely elected Prime Minister gave up the
fight against disease. He did not ask for painkillers and
governed with a clear mind until the very end – having
taken over the government of the country in an inherently
impossible historical situation. The life, preparedness
and death of József Antall are all exemplary: the
spirit of 1956, the protection of Christianity, the emphasis
on the European idea of liberty, the regional V4
concept and the “kamikaze” government that he undertook
to lead with patience and wisdom through a series
of unfair attacks. And thanksgiving. For our memorial
concert, we selected from works dedicated to him or
conceived in ideas that characterised his life’s work.
