The Hungarian National Ballet presents a new Laurencia production choreographed by Michael Messerer on 6 March 2020. The production that can be seen seven times this season aims to enchant audiences with spectacular solo dances, duets and ensembles.

According to the Operational Group commissioned by the Government of Hungary responsible for the containment of the coronavirus epidemic, the height of the spread of the epidemic was expected on 3 May 2020. Therefore, taking the usual one-month rehearsal period into consideration, any theoretical chances of having any performances in the 2019/20 season had ceased. The earliest possibility for the Hungarian State Opera to be open for audiences is in September 2020.
One of the most celebrated dramatic sopranos of today, Iréne Theorin is a regular guest at opera houses and concert venues across the world, where her Strauss and Wagner interpretations have won major critical and public acclaim. A graduate of the Music Academy and Royal Opera School in Copenhagen, Theorin has performed at Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Berliner Staatsoper, Staatsoper Vienna, Salzburg Festival, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera de Paris, Semperoper Dresden and at Bayreuth Festival. Recent engagements include Brünnhilde (the Ring Cycle at La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Washington National Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Berliner Staatsoper, the Wagner Festival in Budapest, Oper Leipzig, Oper Köln and New National Theatre Tokyo), Isolde (Tristan und Isolde at Bayreuth Festival, Théâtre de la Monnaie, Washington National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Tokyo, Berlin, Copenhagen), Elektra (Salzburg Festival, Opéra de Paris), Turandot (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, Essen, Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Guangzhou, Dresden, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Metropolitan Opera New York, Bayerische Staatsoper and Arena di Verona) and Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana at Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen and The Mikhailovsky Theatre). Her DVD recordings include Elektra from Salzburg Festival and Götterdämmerung from the Teatro alla Scala, both released by Arthaus, Tristan und Isolde from Bayreuth on Opus Arté and the award-winning Ring Cycle from Copenhagen on Decca. In 2015, she was awarded singer of the year in Spain for her interpretation of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre in Barcelona in 2014, and she has been knighted the Order of the Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Last season Theorin was heard as Elektra at Bayerische Staatsoper and in a new production at Vlaamse Opera, Venus (Tannhäuser) at Wiener Staatsoper, Brünnhilde (Die Walküre) at Oper Leipzig and in Budapest, Siegfried in a new production at Liceu and Götterdämmerung in Budapest, Isolde at Staatsoper Vienna and Turandot at Teatro dell’ Opera Rome and Arena di Verona. In 15/16 she returns to the Liceu for Götterdämmerung and to Berliner Staatsoper for the Ring Cycle under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim. Further highlights include a new production of Götterdämmerung at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Elektra in Dresden, Isolde at Oper Stuttgart, Tove Gurre-Lieder, Opéra National de Paris with Philipe Jordan and the title role of Turandot at Royal Opera House Muscat and at Festival Castell de Peralada.
