Parsifal for Christians
Holy Week mystery at the Opera
At the same time, we will also be paying tribute to the memory of Frigyes “Fritz” Reiner and his fellow artists, who in the wee hours of 1 January 1914, immediately after Bayreuth's 30-year copyright on Parsifal had lapsed, were courageous enough to set about staging the first performance of the work outside of its official Bavarian sanctuary. Just as we did in 2013, the 88th, and final, performance of Mikó and Ferencsik’s 35-year-old joint production will be dedicated to the Christian churches, with the discounted tickets distributed among the members of the five major denominations.
