Hailed as ‘the Berlin discovery of the year’, 30 year old Hungarian mezzo-soprano Anna Kissjudit is a prodigious talent, having already debuted the role of Erda under the baton of Christian Thielemann in the new Ring Cycle at the Staatsoper Berlin, where she is an ensemble member. Kissjudit is fast establishing herself as one of the leading Wagnerian singers having already made her debut at Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Bayreuther Festspiele in these roles.
Kissjudit’s 2026/27 season includes her debut as Maddalena in Rigoletto at Staatsoper Unter den Linden; performances of Siegfried with Daniel Harding and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; and a new production of Das Rheingold by Tatjana Gurbaca, conducted by Edward Gardner at the Norwegian National Opera. She also performs as Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea at Staatsoper Unter den Linden. On the concert platform, Kissjudit marks another milestone, particularly as a Hungarian singer, with her debut in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle as Judith at Hungarian State Opera. She also performs Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg and Teatr Studio and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at the Bergen International Festival.
Last season, Kissjudit made four notable debuts: Fricka in the new Ring Cycle production at Bayreuther Festspiele; Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera at Staatsoper Unter den Linden; La Cieca in La Gioconda at Gran Teatre del Liceu; and her company debut at Opéra national de Paris as Ježibaba in Rusalka. She performed as Erda in Tcherniakov’s Ring Cycle at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, conducted by Thielemann. On the concert platform, Kissjudit joined the Munich Philharmonic for their New Year’s performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for Mahler’s Symphony No. 8.
Other recent engagements include Mistress Quickly in Falstaff (Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatsoper Unter den Linden); Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried (Bayreuther Festspiele, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala); Mary in Der fliegende Holländer (Norwegian National Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Hungarian State Opera); Ježibaba in Rusalka (Staatsoper Unter den Linden); Gaea in Daphne (Staatsoper Unter den Linden). As part of the ensemble in Berlin, she has also performed as Annina in Der Rosenkavalier, Margret in Wozzeck and Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte as well as other roles.
On the concert platform, Kissjudit repertoire includes Mahler’s Second Symphony (Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg, Szeged Symphony Orchestra); Mahler’s Third Symphony (Frankfurt Opern & Museumsorchester, Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg); Rossini’s Stabat Mater (Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt); Wesendonck Lieder (Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin); St Catherine in Honegger’s dramatic oratorio Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher (Berlin Philharmonic); Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis (Staatskapelle Berlin); Bruckner’s Te Deum (Berlin Philharmonie under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim); and appeared at the Wagner Days Festival at Müpa Budapest in Die Walküre under the direction of Ádám Fischer.
An alumna of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Berlin, she has sung in previous seasons Tetka in Jenůfa; Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly; and Chambermaid in Claus Guth’s new production of Janáček’s Die Sache Makropulos.
