Zita Schnábel is a set and costume designer who graduated in Media Design from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. Since 2016, she has been actively working in both Hungary and the German-speaking regions, primarily creating visual concepts for theatre productions, while her practice also extends to the design of television and podcast studios as well as concert stages.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with leading figures and institutions of the Budapest theatre scene, including Örkény Theatre, Katona József Theatre, Radnóti Theatre, Comedy Theatre of Budapest, the Hungarian State Opera, Studio K Theatre and Trafó – House of Contemporary Arts. She is a regular collaborator of directors such as Viktor Bodó, Attila Vidnyánszky Jr., Kriszta Székely, Dániel Kovács D., Péter István Nagy, Vilmos Vajdai, Kristóf Kelemen and Martin Boross. Among her international works, the productions at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and the Schauspiel Stuttgart stand out. In addition, she is a recurring creative contributor at Budapest Park and has been involved in designing studio environments for media platforms such as Partizán, 444, and 24.hu.
Her work has received several professional accolades: in 2020 she was awarded the Theaterpreis Hamburg for the most outstanding stage design of the year; in 2023 she received the Hungarian Theatre Critics’ Award for Best Set Design; and in 2025 she and her collaborators were awarded Best Visual Design at the eTheatre Festival.
She regularly gives lectures and presents her work in exhibitions both in Hungary and internationally.
