Daria Bavlenko was born in Moscow and graduated from the Vaganova Ballet Academy, where she studied under Elena Evteyeva. She joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 2003 and made her Royal Ballet debut at Covent Garden in 2003 in the role of Nikiya in Natalia Makarova's La Bayadère. In 2005, choreographer Kirill Siminov and set designer Nikola Samonov prepared the ballet Daphnis et Chloé specifically for Pavlenko's own gala night. She has also participated in large-scale ballet productions at the New National Theatre, Tokyo (Raymonda), the Verona Arena (Giselle), as well as with the Hamburg Ballet (Sounds of Empty Pages).
She received an award from the magazine Ballet in 2000 and the Golden Mask Award in 2001, and the Russian state named her an “Artist of Merit” in 2010.
