Budapest-born Klára Huszár studied voice and music pedagogy at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music between 1938 and 1942, and returned there in 1951 to earn a degree in opera directing under the guidance of Gusztáv Oláh, graduating in 1956. Between 1947 and 1951 she worked at Hungarian Radio, where she developed children's operas while serving as head of the youth department. In 1956, she came to the Opera House to work, first as an assistant, and later as a director, and remained there until 1979. She translated a number of librettos, including Menotti's The Telephone, Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto and Rossini's La Cenerentola. She received the Ferenc Erkel Award in 1973 and was named an Artist of Merit in 1977.
