The Kossuth and Jászai Mari Prize-recipient actor, Artist of Excellence and Merit was born in Cegléd in 1960. In 1983, he graduated from the College of Theatre and Film Arts in the class of István Horvai. He started his career at the József Attila Theatre, later signed a contract with the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Kaposvár, where he also held the position of director between 2010 and 2016. He was also a member of the Budapest Chamber Theatre, the Szigligeti Theatre in Szolnok, the National Theatre, and worked as a freelancer as well. Currently, he is a member of the National Theatre again. Between 2006 and 2011, the versatile artist was the mayor of Magyarföld, a small settlement in Őrség, Western Hungary, where he had a church built and founded a festival. He is head of the theatre arts department of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, member of the board of trustees of the University of Theatre and Film Arts, and rector of the university since early 2022. He appeared at the Hungarian State Opera several times in a spoken role in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail, and in 2020 he directed a new production of Richard Strauss's Salome at the Erkel Theatre.
