
Thomas Mika
set and costume designer
He designs sets and costumes for classical and contemporary ballets. He studied opera directing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, his home town. At the age of 25 he devised his first set and costumes for the Staatsballett Berlin at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2006). He has worked with the following choreographers: Alejandro Cerrudo, Edward Clug, Leo Mujic, and Kevin O’Day. He has designed sets for Derek Deane’s The Lady of the Camellias, Alexei Fadeyechev’s Don Quixote in Warsaw and Nina Ananiashvili’s production in Hong Kong, as well as new scenographies for such choreographic masterpieces as Onegin and Romeo and Juliet by John Cranko. Mika has collaborated with many ballet companies around the world, including the Stuttgart Ballet, the Universal Ballet in Seoul, the National Ballet of China, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Hungarian National Ballet, the Polish National Ballet, the Hong Kong Ballet, the Croatian National Ballet, and the Royal Ballet of Flanders.
