He was born in Budapest in 1961. He started his musical studies in Weiner Leó Music School in 1969, where he studied pian, and later composition and music theory. He received his first degree as a composer from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1981. He started his singing studies privately with Erika Sziklay in 1985. He was a soloist of the Budapest Tomkins Vocal Ensemble from 1988. He graduated as a singer in 1992, and became a soloist of the Hungarian State Opera House in 1993. His first major role was Richard in Sándor Balassa's Karl and Anna at the première of the opera. Besides many minor roles the Budapest audience could hear him in the roles of Beckmesser (Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Wolfram (Wagner: Tannhäuser).
