Born in 1985, singer Pablo Ruiz studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Castillo in Seville before graduating from Madrid's Escuela Superior de Canto. He has also participated in master classes with Alberto Zedda at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, with Giulio Zappa at the Tenerife Opera Studio, and with Renato Bruson at Siena's Accademia Musicale Chigiana. He has won awards at numerous competitions, taking second place at the “Ciudad de Logroño” International Singing Competition in Spain in 2012 and the award for “Best Zarzuela Singer” (a genre of theatrical Spanish folk music) at the international competition held in Colmenar Viejo, in the Community of Madrid, in 2013, and winning the top prize at the ASLICO Competition held at Como's Teatro Sociale in 2015.
He was discovered while singing the role of Don Profondo in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims at the 2015 Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. In November of that same year, he got the chance to sing Malatesta in Don Pasquale in Bergamo's Teatro Donizetti, the Teatro Sociale di Como, the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini in Jesi, the Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona and the Teatro Fraschini di Pavia.
His repertoire also includes the roles of Wagner in Faust, Marcello in La bohème and Dandini in Rossini's La Cenerentola. He made his debut at Pesaro's Teatro Rossini in the latter opera, this time in the role of Don Magnifico, to enormous acclaim. Last season, he sang the role of Bartolo in performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia in Ancona, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and in Marseilles, and later also took the stage in Tenerife as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte.
He is also continually expanding the range of his concert engagements: in the 2016/17 season he sang Ovideo in Berlioz's oratorio L'enfance du Christ with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado. He has also sung solo parts in Fauré's Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Rossini's Petite messe solennelle and Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn's Elias, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Mozart's Coronation Mass and Requiem, Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem and Haydn's Die Schöpfung.
His plans for next season include singing Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore at Pamplona's AGAO Opera, joining a production of La Cenerentola as Don Magnifico in Ancona and portraying both Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Dulcamara in Toulon. He will be singing Taddeo in L'italiana in Algeri at both the Hungarian State Opera and in Marseille, as well as Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Lima, and will perform in Carmen in Ovideo.
