Sára Szalai started her artistic studies in the textile design programme at the Hungarian Secondary School of the Visual Arts. Between 2009 and 2015, she was a student at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where she earned a degree as an applied and artistic visual designer, working as a set and costume designer on several short films and theatrical productions even while still at the university. She has worked together with Balázs Benő Fehér, András Almási-Tóth and M. Gábor Koltai. She currently works as a freelance visual designer. Her major theatrical design credits include L'Écume des jours (set, Ódry Theatre, 2014), Il campanello (set and costumes, Hungarian State Opera House, 2014), Sitcom (costumes, Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, 2015), The Seagull (sets, Átrium Film Theatre, 2015), Strangers (costumes, Hungarian State Opera House, 2015) and Orphans (costumes, Studio K Theatre, 2016).
