When and where can I buy tickets?

Contact details and opening hours of our ticket offices, can be found on Contact page. Please note that we are only responsible for tickets purchased at our ticket offices, on our website or via opera.jegy.hu.

Can I buy one ticket to the boxes?

From 2022, the boxes of the Opera House are sold as a unit, and extra seats are not available.

Are tickets required for children?

Tickets for our main stage productions are required for all our visitors, for more information on our discounts for students and families, CLICK HERE. Age restrictions displayed on are website are recommendations.

Is it possible to buy last-minute tickets in case of a sold out performance?

A limited number of low-priced standing room tickets are available for purchase at the Opera House box office and online two hours before the evening performance and one hour before the matinée. The view is limited from the standing places.

Can my ticket be refunded?

The OPERA reserves the right to change the timing, venue, programme, and cast in accordance with the GTC. Tickets and season tickets can be refunded or exchanged for another performance only in change of date or cancellation of a performance. All unused tickets can be safely sold on the Ticketswap website, which is officially allows you to resell some of your tickets in complete confidence and security. How do I get to the Opera House?

By public transport: Metro line M1 / No. 105 and 210 buses (stop: Opera M) / No. 70 and 78 trolleybuses (stop: Andrássy út (Opera M)).

By car: Parking* is possible on Andrássy út and the surrounding streets, or in car parks. The number of spaces is limited.
*On weekdays, between 8 am and 10 pm, a fee is charged.

Is there a dress code at the Opera House?

There is no official dress code at the Hungarian State Opera, but many of our guests take the opportunity to dress elegantly for their visit to the opera out of respect for the theatre and other audience members.

Can I take my coat with me? Where can I leave my backpack? Where is the cloakroom?

Coats, jackets and bulky bags and items (e.g. rucksacks, suitcases, umbrellas, musical instruments) must be handed in at one of our free cloakroom.

If you have booked a box, please use the coat racks in your box.

Is the Opera House accessible?

The lift on the left provides access to the stalls, as well as to our accessible box on the same level and to the accessible toilets. Floor III is available from both sides via lifts.

What should I do if I am late?

According to paragraph 3.5 of OPERA's GTC for Ticket Sales, visitors arriving late for a performance may only take their seats during the interval or, if there is a suitable break, they may enter the auditorium without disrupting the performance, with the assistance of the auditorium attendants, by taking a seat other than the one purchased in the evening. If there is no intermission during the performance, it is not possible to enter the auditorium after the performance has started. Box ticket holders may take their seats after the performance has started.

Where and in what language can I find the subtitles for the performance?

In the Opera House, Hungarian and English surtitles can be seen above the stage. Besides, the Hungarian and English subtitles as well as the original text can be accessed in the front row of the stalls and level 3 on spring-loaded mini tablets mounted in the armrests of the seats, while the rest of the stalls can access the subtitles on touch screens mounted on the backs of the previous seats. In the front row of the boxes, flip-up touch screens, in the second row, screes mounted on a side column provide subtitles.
